Subdomains as accounts in WHM

All,

I don't have access to a cpanel whm yet but will be running it on my own server. I am brand new to the hosting game and need to know the following:

Can I set up new accounts in cPanel as a subdomain of a single DNS name?

For example: If I owned xyz.com can I set up new cpanel accounts as
1.xyz.com
2.xyz.com
3.xyz.com

I know I can do this WITHIN a cpanel account with the subdomain thing, but I need to manage each account totaly seperately, and want to do this by account. Is this possible? And if possible, what steps would need to be taken to make this happen?

Any Feedback Appreciated!

Thanks!

Without being a server administrator I'm not 100% sure on this question but I think when you add a cPanel account, if you just submit it with the subdomain.xyz.com then it will use only that subdomain instead of a domain with the restrictions you set (no addon domains/subdomains).

Can anyone verify this?

Yes, once you have access to WHM, you will be able to add accounts (individual Cpanel accounts) as subdomains.

Thank you for your responses so far!

Thank you for your responses so far!

Just to be real clear on this:

>> Yes, once you have access to WHM, you will be able to add accounts (individual Cpanel accounts) as subdomains.

So what your saying is that I can add multiple new accounts that are different subdomains of a single domain name.

That is exactly what I want to do!

Are there any issues with doing this? ( read: do I need to disable anything or change some settings to make this work properly? or do I just type in the subdomain.xyz.com when I create the account and it just works? )

Also I then wanted to wildcard an SSL cert to cover all the subdomains. Is this also straight forward to do?

Really appreciate it!

There is absolutely no extra work associated with creation of subdomains as normal accounts.

You can also create a subdomain under your cpanel and gave it ftp access, this will make it an independent account, but your subdomain will not have access to cpanel.
