Clustering.
I'm trying to get my head around clustering.
It basicaly uses resources for multiple servers to function as one server?
This leads me to a few questions.
The idea in my head is.
Cluster -> VPS Running Cpanel for all hosting.
The reason i say VPS is beacase i read that Cpanel is not designed to be run on a clustered system. Thefore i thought if you run a VPS using that cluster Cpanel would function asif it was on 1 box?
What sort of software (Linux) should i be looking at (that your recomend)?
What are the limitations?
What are the benifits?
And feel free to comment with any personal experience and suggestions.
Thankyou.
Rian

I'm looking at basing our customer hosting system on a cluster. So the servers can share there resources to overcome load problems and space problems.
Because i realise that Cpanel does no do this as apart of its scripting and it working on a cluster would brake it.
This is where my idea of running a cluster then a VPS on top of it, There for Cpanel thinking it is only on one machine and this machine could have unlimited resources (by adding more servers and hardware).
This is what i was thinking of doing.

Actually, I think your looking more along the lines of H-Sphere from www.psoft.net.

I know about h-spere and interworx.
We like to use cpanel because of its functionality (and fantastico).

I think you may be confused.... A VPS splits a single server into multiple virtual servers, it does not cluster multiple servers into one.

I'm not sure it it would work, but it seems like it would be more trouble than it's worth.
H-sphere would be a better choice, it will do everything cpanel will do and more.As far as fantastico ,H-sphere has EasyApps, same thing only different.

1) Cpanel does NOT support clustering.
2) You would need to find a VPS software vendor that supports clustering.
This combination is a project killer.

Yes, cpanel supports dns clustering only, which is different then what I believe the original poster is looking for.

The combination of "cluster" and "cpanel" in one sentence is oxymoron. I see as infinite impossibility for original poster to do "clustering" without professional help. Some people on this thread also need this help on this subject.
Regards,
Peter.

I've built a clustered webhosting solution, (well almost clustered, some few services arent clustered), which involved building my own control panel and system layer.
For small (<10.000 domain names) hosts its really not worth it though. Sure the performance is nice and it runs itself to a great extent, but it takes too long to design/program and matching the features of cpanel 100% would take years to develop.
If I would have started up today, I would have done it differently
