bought expired domain, 4 months later godaddy lost it?
ok i bought a domain that expired in december in december
for the past 4 months i've been getting emails from godaddy saying the site was in some sort of transitional period or some nonsense, "PENDINGDELETE", but the entire time the register said the site expired December 2005
Now, 4 months later, godaddy says it's been renewed by someone else until 2007.
Can someoen explain how htat works?
How can a site expire, then i go pay for the site, then someone else buys it 4 months later after I bought it? Why did it take so long to transfer to me? I've never bought a site that was previously owned, but usually when i buy a site it's mine almost immediately.

Since it's renewed by somebody else, perhaps you could tell us the name so we can run a check?

How did you buy the domain if it was expired, I'm guessing from someone?
I had a recent transaction where a member on a domain sold me 2 expired domains (yes I should have checked but I figure most people are honest) and I had to pay a premium to not let them expire.

I decided to back order on GoDaddy domain that ws pending delete for them to send unsuccesful email.......2 weeks later they decided to give it to me. Why?
They registered it and held it to see if there was any other interest in it before letting it go for what they could get for it : in my case $18.95 backorder fee. Also original name wanted was back ordered only for them to then put it in the auction. Cost me $130 to get it plus the $4.95 to join the auction process!!
Not sure if you said you've paid twice-in december before pending delete then again march. Suspect someone has placed an offer on it or it was in the GoDaddy auctions.
I myself think goDaddy are nothing more than moronic sharks that do not understand even simple sentences.

im sory i did not follow you on this one, are you talkin about your self? if so, why did you have to join the auction when 2 weeks before they gave you the domain. or it is that you got the name 2 weeks after paying for the backordering, joining the auction and then the aution itself?

You obviously ignored all that "nonsense" and didn't renew your domain with them. After it dropped, because you didn't want it, somebody else registered it.

no.... huh? renew? I never had the domain.
In december I got
DomainAlert Backordering $ 18.95
for a domain whose WHOIS said expired in december. I decided I want the domain and I backordered it.
The domain name expired, meaning whoever owned it didnt pay to renew it again.
When I didnt get it within a week or two of it expiring I emailed them and asked why not. This is their explanation:
Quote:
The domain expires --> 0 to 42 days later the Registrar releases the domain to the Registry --> The domain is held for 30 days by the Registry (Redemption Period) --> The domain takes 5 days to be released --> The domain is available for new registration
A domain is not immediately available after the expiration date. It will take at least 35 to 85 days after the expiration date before Domain Alert Pro will be able to attempt to register the domain on your behalf. Until that time, the domain is not available as a new registration.
|
So I've been waiting the past ~80 days for this domain and NOW they're saying someone else bought it, not the original people on the WHOIS either.
WTF is goin on????

Bad advice I'm afraid. Please read the thread Backordering in Domain Name Tutorials on this Forum.

If you backorder a domain name.. you are one of possibly a thousand people who might have placed a similar backorder.
It is likely that someone else simply "won" the domain once it became publicly available.

That's definitely what it sounds like to me. It finally got released and was gotten by someone else. Backordering from any registrar does not guarantee you will be the one to get it.

So can a service allow multiple people to backorder the same name?

lol well in my opinion Backordering is a scam you may wait 100s of years it the company is still in business by then :-) to get a dang domain just spend the dang 8.99 and get a different domain. It’s not that hard to come up with a good name.
I came up with NetDemads the .com was taking
the .net was not I got the .net 1year later the .com guy contacted me he wanted 3000 $ for it I contacted him back and laughed at him I waited till it expired knowing this guy don’t want it no more and registered I got both now :-) such a happy ending.

Some of them do, in which case if they get it, they auction it to the ones who backordered it. Others only allow one person to backorder it.
