Owned: Boy Sticks Gum On $1.5 Million Painting At Museum

Quote:
DETROIT -- The Detroit Institute of Arts is stuck with having to repair a painting worth $1.5 million.

It has to remove a stain left by a wad of gum stuck on the painting by a 12-year-old visitor.
Linky

I guess his mom never told him to keep his hand to himself!

Er, I wouldn't call it owned.. more like that kid is a dumbarse. How much common sense [well, a lack thereof] does it take to do something like that?

Agree... The museum needs to review how they present the paintings as well.

Something that cost that much should have some type of protection...

It's rather sad that gum is stuck onto a piece of art that an artist put so much time into Hope they can recover everything.

That kid should have to pay for the damages. Being 12, I'm sure it will come out of the parent's pockets, but they can make him work it off. Guarantee, he won't do it again when he realizes the costs involved.

$1.5m??

Here it is BTW - http://www.vertechinc.com/archive/wa...nkenthaler.jpg

Someone's gotta say it - it's not that great. In fact, it looks like a piece of chewing gum anyway. The kid probably just got confused and thought it meant "stick your chewing gum here!"

Maybe there's someone here with a trained eye who actually likes it but it's not for me

Yea, not sure why that piece worth $1.5M, but then ... art is very relative. And the boy must have thought the gum will add value to that piece of art.
