Thail, Aus, & NZ Airlines

I won't go in to any detail at this stage, apart from to say I would like to look in to the following air routes:

Thailand > Australia
Australia > New Zealand
New Zealand > UK

Put simply, the cheaper the flights are, the better.

Maybe this is one for the likes of Bob who will be flying from Oz to the USA for HostingCon.

Which airlines would you suggest? Over here in the UK we have several budget airlines. Are there any in Australia/New Zealand?

I realise there are the large airlines such as Quantas, Virgin, BA etc, but maybe there are a couple of dark horse airlines under there somewhere just waiting to throw their budget prices at me.

I think Tiger Airways will be your cheapest Thailand to Aus option

They are a fairly bare bones operation though, dont expect it to be a Sinapore Airlines type. Im still here to talk about it - so must be ok

They only fly into Darwin though as far as I know

The ordering system on their website is a bit poorly thought out, you will have to book Thailand to Singapore and then a seperate Singapore to Darwin

I would think VirginBlue will be cheapest Sydney > Auckland (about $190 AUD)

I just almost filled my pants! (Sorry for that horrible thought). I checked Expedia for flights from Bangkok > Sydney, and the cheapest was with BA at £311.80. I have now just checked Tiger Airways cost, and a flight from Bangkok > Singapore > Darwin would cost just £70! I really don't know if I would want to trust an airline with such low prices. It will be a long time until I actually book these flights, so it may well be they have gone out of business by the time I go.

I checked VirginBlue earlier but the cheapest flight from Sydney > Auckland was $389.00 (Jan 07). That was with a connection in Brisbane.

They are ok safetywise, and will still be around, just dont expect service or food, but boy you can buy a lot of sandwiches with the savings.

And when you fly into Darwin its the coldest place in oz just ask anon

Jamie let me teach you a little about buying airfares aussie style

They are often at their cheapest one month from flight time, its's a small risk that they will be more exspensive, but more often you will find you save lots when they realise the flights arent filling and they start the discounts.

Try their site now for about 3-4 weeks ahead and then 12 months ahead .. you will see what I mean.
