phpBB provides currency mods, you can find them on the mod section of their website. I'm sure they are not the only ones.

I have used the currency mod on phpBB before and it works quite well. Make sure to download the mod installer to make the processes much easier (I dont remember the exact name of it, but its listed in the mod section)

If you're talking about mod_cash, make sure you're using the most up to date version as that mod has had a history a major security issues.
