Road Runner is Time Warner's cable company. They own the company.

Very popular, and with good reason. They have a fantastic network. Very fast. Very reliable. Kinda pricey, but worth it

I am a customer, and I will not switch back to DSL, regardless of how much less expensive it might be.

I would say so. I'm not a customer but a bunch of my friends are.

However, Cablevision, although slightly less reliable, has 3 more MBPS. 11 to be precise .

Time Warner Cable delivers TV & phone service. Road Runner provides internet and email sevices for cable companies. Mainly for Time Warner but also for Bright House Communications, Insight Cable, and Urban Cableworks.

I'm getting 8-10 mbps down.

Good service, but we only get 5Mbit down. The upload speed however is capped at 384K. They refuse to increase this unless I spend a smalll fortune for little gain. As the tech explained to me, your download stream is shared among all users on the node, but your upload is all you. If they gave everyone more upload, it would be using the available pipe and all would slow down when it was in use.

Based on this, and his inability to understand what I meant by "upload" (he told me to upload to a server on the internet instead of 'serving' files from my computer...though I told him three times this *was* what I was doing), I think he hasn't a clue. Of course, it could just mean that they don't have the hardware to offer this, or the bandwidth they have is asynchronous...or something like that.

Road Runner *is* amazing. I use them, but have always been confused about the relationship between Time Warner and Road Runner. My ISP e-mails are @twcny.rr.com, but Time Warner Central New York is my cable provider, so I've always been confused. Oh well, I'm a confused person I guess

I here a lot of good things about RR. Comcast is another story in our area. They have a lot of downtime compared to DSL. A co-worker in another city who's on Cox has better luck.

That makes sense.

twcny.rr.com = Time Warner Central New York dot Road Runner dot Com

They're the same company.

It depends where you live really. We had RoadRunner for 3 years, and then we tried Yahoo SBC DSL for a month, and better speed, realiability than Road Runner we experienced.

RR is great... had them for 2 years, moved to dsl for 3 years, now back to RR as of three months ago. Both the dsl and RR have fast speeds... I can't tell the difference on forums or getting my emails. Both are reliable... only price is different.
