I'm looking for a VPS with a lot of storage space for the lowest dollar amount. Bandwidth is not important to me, nor is performance. What are my best options.

A web hosting account with ssh and background processes would also work, but I haven't been able to find many shared hosting accounts that allow background processes.

What kinda background processes are you running? Some shared hosts allow crontab scripts and such...but I'm not sure how long they allow you to keep stuff running.

I'm parsing 4 gig text file daily. It's highly processor intensive. Can anyone recommend any names?

I don't understand why you're wanting the cheapest, if you're doing something that intensive.

If you need something that intensive, you need to go with a reputable provider and spend a few bucks, instead of trying to cheap out going for the lowest possible price.

Have you tried to do this type of processing on a vps? Do you have any baseline data on how long it takes to parse such a file in a non-vps environment? I have parsed files that big and larger both on dedicateds and on VDS. However, I have not compaired the times.

I don't know whether this is what you're looking for, but you could go for JaguarPC's entre level Discovery VPS Plan at 20$ per month. You can add more ressorces as needed.

I use this plan and like it a lot. So far their support has been really great.
