This is my initial review after 2 live days at HiVelocity
Sales: A+, very friendly and knowledgable staff. The setup took a little longer than expected but it was during the weekend which is understandable. The account manager called me personaly when there was an issue with my order and was very easy to talk to.
Support: A+, Once again, extremely courteous and knowledgable staff. So far the only problem I had was that I didn't know where my bandwidth monitoring website is.
Network: B, Initial testing show some bad ping spikes on HotSaNIC graphs. Will monitor, also, after downloading tons of new files from various sources over the web, I could not get anything more then 550Kb/s. Will investigate this further.
I have to admit, the best thing this company has going for is their Live Chat which seems to be manned 24/7. I've had chat discussions with HiVelocity reps at 1:00am!!
I will post an update to this review, approximately 2 weeks from now.
Cheers,
Tom

You mean signed up with HiVelocity for 1-3 days, or signed up with WHT?. because I've originally signed up with WHT back in Nov 2004.

Tom

I'm running a rather unusual setup, with beta software no less (VMWare Server). so I can not yet determine if the network problems are on my end or not. Once I determine that the bottleneck is on your side, I'll contact your tech.
Cheers,
Tom

Have you already tried to download your file from the physical server vs the VMware server?

I've tried downloading a file from the VM machine, peaked at only 60KB/s.
I haven't tried downloading from the physical machine yet, simply because I don't have any services installed that are not critical to running the host, I need all the processing/memory of the machine to run the VMs. Hence no apache/ftp. I'm in the middle of installing the VMWare management interface which includes apache. Will test after.
Cheers,
Tom

Pardon me for butting in, seeing as this is my review thread, just like hundreds of others. You guys coming in and hijacking my thread just to start a flame war. And then you have the nerve to accuse me of being a HiVelocity plant.
I mean damn, If I'm supposed be spreading good HiVelocity vibe, why am I paying for their service? Shouldn't they be paying me?
And a quick look at my post history will show that I used to host with superbservers.net and imhosted.com, neither of which I was overly sattisfied with. And guess what, I'm also hosting with DreamHost. Which I might say is doing an absolutely superb job with their hosting.
Cheers,
Tom

Tom, this is what most of the people on this board does. They just want to start a flame war when somebody post something. They rather want to post against the thread than posting optimistic reviews. Most of the threads here ends with those flame wars instead of the informative postings. If somebody discuss about XYZ host or ABC features, most of the people on this board rather want to beat around the bush than letting the actual reviewers and customers post their opnions. To be frank, not every people on this board are true in their opinions as they just want to bluff about how good they are and how their infrastructure is better than others. (And they are thinking that they could get more customers and ask for more $$$ by posting such posts and bashing down the others. Shame on them anyway.)
HiVelocity is always included in my consideration list. I just haven't host with them yet. But to be frank again, I always consider HiVelocity along with ThePlanet,EV1,ServerBeach,Superbservers,LayerdTech.
All in all, every people need to consider is cost, hardware and network reliability, and the support issues. And as far as I have checked, HiVelocity is not a bad host and they seems doing better and improving their network.

Wow. An insightful and sensible reply. What more can a guy ask for?
But as regarding to what you said, I think people prefer to read negative reviews. And people with positive experiences hardly post positive reviews. It's a lot easier to rant than to praise.
Cheers,
Tom

I think I figured out the problem. I think the problem lies with Windows XP. I have 3 VMs running on Virtual Server. Both CentOS and Windows 2003 will send files over the internet at maximum throuput (700kB/s Cable). However, WindowsXP downloads files at maximum speed, but only uploads at maximum of about 200kB/s over the internet. It uses it's full speed on a LAN tho, which is most puzzling. I have been yet unsuccessfull in locating an explanation on Google or MSDN.
But, with that said. It is now evident that the culprit is indeed Windows XP and not HiVelocity network.
Cheers,
Tom

I am glad you were able to eliminate the hardware and network ,let me know if there is anything else we can help you with.
P.S. Thanks for the review.
