I constantly get this error on this one file when I try to rsync a local file to another remote server:

rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes: phase "unknown": Broken pipe
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(515)


I kept on retrying, it baffles me as to why it happens only to this certain file.

What version of Rsync are you running (rsync --version)? The current release is 2.6.6, which fixes a lot of problems with older versions of Rsync. Also, is the file particularly large?

I upgraded to 2.6.6 now. seems that the problem is fixed. I think all servers should upgrade to the newest version.
