Perth's mysterious "hovering" car

Australia: Eagle eyed users of the satellite imaging service Google Earth have spotted what appears to be a car hovering above the ground in a suburban Perth car park.

The photo is of a car park just off Honour Avenue at Point Walter in the affluent south western suburb of Bicton. The spot is a popular picnic location on the banks of the Swan River.

A number of cars are shown in parking bays and the vehicle in question appears to hovering above the ground nearby, its shadow clearly visible beneath.

Since it's a still photo, it can't be said with certainty that anything is "hovering." If that were a car, it could be falling.

But that's not what it looks like to me... it looks like a rectangular structure with a white rooftop and glass sides. It's placed in an area where a clearing has been made in the trees in a shape obviously made to fit this structure. It looks kind of like, as the article says, a bus stop shelter. Look how much narrower it is in relation to its length in comparison to the cars parked nearby. It's not a car.

Ya, it seems a shadow. I never understand why people love gossip so much.

The article at The Register claims that there was never a bus shelter there, which may be true. At any rate, there are clearly supports extending from the white object, which appears to be some sort of a roof or cover, to the ground. Even if it's a car, it's not hovering... it's up on stilts.

But hey, I have nothing against active imaginiations.

Could it be a tent? Or one of those portable canopies? I know we had one like that in high school that we used for cross country and track to provide shelter at meets.

*starts chanting* Photoshop! Photoshop! Photoshop!

Obviously the people at Google wanted to have some fun with us and photoshopped this particular image.

I can picture them laughing their asses off at Googleplex when they read this on the news over their cup of coffee and saying "Finally someone found it!".
