Moving

Hi,
I'd like to know if it's very difficult to move from a hosting company to another, I mean, how do you do it? Do you have to backup every hosted file and database and upload them all or what?
Thanks for your answers.

You can also recreate everything. I would prefer the backups. Usually hosts help with the move.

you probably will need to download everything and upload it all - unless you have shell access..

email is probably one of the worst things to move and requires some planning.

remember any databases you have, best method is to export them and recreate them (phpMyAdmin allows you to do that).

Best and easiet way to do it to keep two seperate accounts open until you're sure that everything has been moved and is working properly, and DNS has been propagated over all ISPs. This allows you to check both webmails the first week of your transfer until all of your emails are sent to your new hosting account. As others have mentioned, phpMyAdmin has the ability to export and import databases, though you have to be extra careful if you're dealing with a large amount of databases.

Exporting with phpMyAdmin... do you mean downloading SQL backups and recreating the DBs and uploading the .sqls with phpMyAdmin?
How would I move email?
Thanks!

Email are bit tricky. You can ask your host to backup postoffices and then restore it to new location.

Regards,
