hi,
I have an AMD Sempron2600. It's not the most powerful server by any means, I know, but have to start somewhere.
Anyway, on average, how many web sites could fit comfortably on a server like this? I know it depends on a lot, but I'm just looking for an estimation here.
Most sites will use php/mysql to some degree, but they probably won't be very large. A few may be a bit larger, though.
Oh, by the way, it has 512mb of ram.
Thanks,
Brandon

Personally, I'd put no more than 125 accounts and even then I'd have the box very well optimized, etc.

Hi Elix,
That's a lot better than I expected; thanks a lot. Not bad for a server like this.

Servers do *a lot* more than people think. Yours should do about 200 and be ok... unless everyone of them is hitting mysql consistantly.
I doubt many people have actually pushed a server to a steady max.

Hi,
Don't want to overload it, but I guess I'll see how the server does as more sites are put on it. I just wanted some basic estimation. Both of those are much higher than I had expected.
Thanks for the reply

I personally don't think you should put over 100 accounts. This way it guarantees server quality for you customers.

hi,
Actually, I'm using this figure to calculate pricing. I'm being pretty conservative with the estimation, so I'm just saying 60-70. That should leave some room in case not so many can be placed on the server.
I agree; I don't want to overload it.
