[Email Help] Outgoing (SMTP) server.

Ok, so theres not really a right place for this, so i chose the most appropriate

My Problem
I am setting my email up for my domain "@i-candesign.net" in outlook express, and i have set it all up, including my incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) server's both as "mail.i-candesign.net". This seems to be fine for incoming, yet it is not liking it for outgoing. Does anyone have an idea for what my outgoing server should be set to? Is this a question i should be bringing up with my host?

Thanks,

You really should ask your host. Even though smtp.domain.com is a popular choice but it's different for every hosts so it's better to ask.

Go to your account from Tools: Accounts

Double click your account. Go to the "Servers" tab, at the bottom, click "My server requires authentication", click "Settings", and then check off "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".

That should work

Is your ISP blocking ports? Ask your host if they also run an alternate port for you.

Normally it is actually set as mail.i-candesign.net on most *nix setups. Try enabling outgoing server authentification in your account properties, this should do the trick.

Generally mail.yourdomain.tld will work just fine (check with your current host). You may simply be running into an authentication problem. If you have successfully logged in via POP and the SMTP server is set correctly, then it isn't being authenticated via POP before SMTP, so you will need to enable server authentication as Jeff suggested.

Send a quick e-mail to your host as some places such as fasthosts dont give you an smtp server with your hosting account, you've got to use your isp's one.....

Weird, even after i check authentication and my details, im still getting this error:

"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'I-CanDesign - Admin', Server: 'mail.i-candesign.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F"

i will chat to my host next time he is on msn.
