Ok so what options do I have for a good layer 3 device. I know the 2948G is L3, anything else comparable and not too pricey? (cisco)

It doesn't, 2924 is a basic Layer 2 switch.

For layer 3, I personally like the Cisco 3550.

I dont suppose the 3548 xl en is L3? also WS-C2948G , does it need L3 in the model name for it to be layer 3 ? I am going nuts over this. I am looking at this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Cisco-Catalyst-S...QQcmdZViewItem

eBay will do that to you Be careful; when it comes to Cisco switches with a lot of variations (like the 2950), often times unknowledgeable sellers will use photos from Cisco's site or something they found on Google and say 'Cisco 2950' when the picture shows a 2950T or something that costs quite a bit more than a base model 2950.
