I believe they simply offer a PayPal account, which is free in any case.

I did not know that. Maybe we'll start offering "free merchant accounts" as well

Unfortunately, there are no true "free" merchant accounts, and they're a marketing ploy at best.

May be you can give a try searching deeper on the offers board for the free merchant account.

I don't think any host really offers free merchant accounts or else you pay for it with your monthly billings its just basicly included.

A (real) merchant account is not cheap so I also doubt you're going to find that anywhere at all, indeed. You might be able to find some 3rd party processors but not a real merchant though, I highly doubt that.

They do disclose that it's PayPal, so they're not trying to hide it. Although IMO, it's a stretch calling PayPal a "merchant account".

That's not similar really. Clientexec is a billing system, which is not free. So if a company provides that for free, it is an actual benefit to the customer.

Merchant Accounts are rather cheap, and free to setup in most cases if you shop them around. The key is the monthly fees, 99% charge a monthly statement fee, than per transacation fee, and transacation discount rates.

2co is same concept, per trasnacation fee and discount rate.

Now in all reality PayPal does now have a new Virtual Terminal which is a true merchant account in many ways.

That's sneaky

Next time we update our site I'm going to make sure free merchant account is added I'll give a direct link to paypal upon account creation.

I wonder if anyone has been surprised when they order and find out the merchant account is just paypal.

That is how I know, never hurts to check up on the competition . In all reality, I agree that it is sneaky.

Wow, I didn't think you were serious at first. That's one hell of a marketing ploy.
