Becouse probably is most powerful but i prefered simplemachines forum -free like phpbb.

vBulletin is safer than phpBB and use less maschine resources

vbulletin is simply more polished and should be since it's a piece of commercial software. vbulletin 3.5 has a plugin system and everything so it's easy to add your own features without worying about modifying actual code. This makes so you can actually update vbulletin everytime and not worry about your custom features being broken. It's quite sweet

VB has a powerfull admin panel to do everything needed to run your site.
phpBB is a great open source software but has to many wholes and can be unsafe if you dont keep updated

Agreed with gfxnet. We currently use phpbb and I myself have used it for a good 5 years or so. But thinking of switching as we installed roughly 40 mods to it and the new versions came out and we have already experienced some security issues with phpbb. I hate to do it, but vB seems like the better alternative. The $160 should be worth it.
