Looking for a reliable webhost...

I am looking for a reliable host for my upcoming website. Actually that should be websites. The one will be changing hosts and I will be starting 2 others. Each with their own domain.

Here are my requirements. It isn't much.

The ability to host at least 3 domains on the same account
Around 3GB of disk space (the more the better)
Around 100GB of data transfer (the more the better)
PHP 4 or 5 running in cgi mode via suPHP
SSH Shell Access
FTP Access
mySQL databases (at least 6)

And here are a few that I consider to be extras

Free domain(s)
Shared SSL Certificate (or the ability to install one I provide)

The site will not be terribly hard on the server.
Planned software install is Simple Machines Forum 1.0.5 with TinyPortal and Coppermine 1.4.3. That will be pretty much it but I will be hosting lots of pictures and video is very likely. I will be having a strict policy against nude pictures on user submissions and it will be moderated anyways. If people try the will be warned and their submission denied.

My current website (which does not run this software) is getting 350+ hits per day.

One last thing is that this new host should be able to register the new domain during signup and manage subdomains from it. If that isn't an option then a proper domain registrar is required. This registrar should be able to do proper subdomains (not the forwarded variety).

You should definitely check out the offers section below in the ads forums. Also, utilize the search feature, it is great for this sort of thing.

I am considering on using site5.com. In fact with all the information I have been getting here I think I will sign up with them however I still need a registrar then to service my domain name. I am considering namecheap for the domain hosting but I don't know if the can do proper subdomains (i.e. they don't just forward to another url).

Namecheap works great for everything related to a domain. regarding subdomains is quick and easy. They also update to the master dns servers quite quick 1 thing i found as a bonus compared to some other's.

Ok. Then I think it is settled. I will confer with my partner but I think it will be Site5.com for web hosting and Namecheap as my domain registrar. The 50 subdomains per domain should be more than sufficient I think.

Good luck with your projects!

Please keep us informed on how's Site5 for you. We are reading all kind of negative/positive stuff. Would be interesting to read some feedback from you after some time of being with Site5.

Cheers

I've been with site5.com for about 5 months now, and I love it. they are reliable, they talk to me and tell me what's going on, they have a wonderfully active support forum, and their technical support is Top Notch.

I HIGHLY reccomend them to everyone

Hello,

I would also recommend to have your domain registered separately from your web host. Godaddy and Namecheap would be good options.

Best of luck with your new sites and do let us know how it goes with site5 within few months.
