Integrated mail server options using Plesk

We have a dedicated GoDaddy server for web/email hosting purposes, and currently use Plesk with MailEnable integrated. We're not satisfied with MailEnable's spam and virus protection capabilities - we're using SpamAssassin, but there's very little that can actually be configured, it seems...same with Dr. Web for antivirus - very little we can actually get our hands on and configure. We had to shut it down via a registry key because it was too strong/too many false positives.

I see that Plesk advertises SmarterMail as well, but have not experienced a demo or anything of the sort to test the product. Is there something else out there that will integrate with Plesk but give us more control in terms of antivirus and spam filtering?

It should be possible to integrate ClamAV with Plesk, however it's not something I have any experience with.

I've used Plesk (on FreeBSD) for many years now and started using Spam Assassin and Dr. Web when they became available. I have to say, I've not really had any problems with them, in fact, I've been very pleased with them.

Having said that, I've now drifted away from Plesk, and migrated over to cPanel for a number of reasons.

Good luck with your search.
Happy New Year.

I guess the reason why we shut down Dr. Web was not because of false positives - it was actually a bug in an auto-update that created an SMTP loop.

That, and the registry key where we disabled it also disabled SpamAssassin, which explains why we haven't really been stopping much spam lately

I installed a patch for Dr. Web and re-enabled both services. Still wish we had more in terms of configuration and logging, but we'll see how it goes for now. Thanks for the suggestion on ClamAV.
