Yep, I'm doing cinema advertising, and although I think my brand is dead easy to remember/spell etc, I do get a fair few typo entries to the site. Bah.

To me the percentage of typo traffic doesn't really matter. If someone sees my ad in a cinema, or hears an ad on the radio, or is told about my company orally, I want to give that person every opportunity to arrive at my site, on their first or or even second attempt. That means securing as many routes as possible, that can lead up to your site. Typos, various extensions etc, they all matter.
You can build a brand with 1 domain only, or build your brand with that main domain PLUS dozens of route domains, be they spelling variants, different extensions, plural, singular, hyfenated, nonhyfenated etc, all leading up to the main domain. Which is the smarter method? Of course the method with the most domains.
I wouldn't feel confident investing into a brand with only the one domain leading to it. That's building on shaky ground, and one day you realise your brand has been toasted, and is really nothing but a lower family member in another brand's tree. Brand is warfare.• WLVPN.com • NetProtect owned White Label VPN provider •

I understand you Bob. I agree with your basic tenent that you need all .tld's before you start branding anything. I was just a bit surprised that typos were so important.
Are there really so many typos for 7 character domain name?

I have about 24 typos for my brand. I'm probably a tad extreme, but with domains only worth a few bucks each, I can go a bit crazy.

It heavily depends on domain name itself. Some domains are hard to type, others are from most often misspelled words and some are nearly bullet-proof against typos. Now i will tell what you already know - if your domains are easy to misspell then it makes sense to register a few of others, just to sleep better. Also, if you have plural word in domain name, register singular variant too.
This will catch that 0.2% of stupid visitors which usually make other mistakes too and they are pain in the *** anyway. So, if you ask me, typos can be good to keep some of the most stupid people away from the site.

with $75k you could most likely find a good deal on a word you would like. My advice, although I'm not a domain name expert is to right down all the possible domains that you would be keen to have. Once you do that then contact the owners and take it from there. Your bound to get one of the ones you would like whether it's $75k or less. You can include host & hosting in your words so you have a few options, maybe a word like yahoo or google could be even better if you have the funds to back it up with a marketing campaign.
You could spend $6 on something original and spend the other $74,994 on marketing & advertising for your new hosting businessHow to Move from WordPress to Blogger - Complete Guide

You definitely DO NOT want to register a domain including either "yahoo" or "google" without first having express written consent from Yahoo or Google respectively.

personally, i think i'd rather spend a few hundred on a name and the balance on advertising but that's just me
i have it from a reliable source that WebHostling.com is for sale, but i didn't hear a price
of course there is as much difference between webhosting and webhostling as there is between lightning and a lightning bug
creditcards.com sold for 2.75 million in 2004 and creditcardsy.com is available unregistered ... or it was a moment ago ... i fully expect someone reading this thread to register it
i wouldn't give 50 cents for either name but they are interesting just the same,
good luckI approve this message.

Followed this thread from Post #1.
In summary, there's currently no domain at $75,000 meet the criterias either it's not qualified or worth much more.
IMO, I'd rather buy abrandable domain and promote it with the available funds.
