Continued here.
I'm shocked. He wasn't that old, although he had health problems for a while. I figured he'd pull through a bit, seems he would have had the very best in health care. Can't believe this has happened.

That's pretty sad. He was powerful enough in Australia he was able to tell the Prime Minister to "back off" on more than one occasion, while having an amazing amount of loyalty from his staff. I remember when his person chopper pilot gave him a kidney when he needed one - no questions asked.
Another story I remember was a night at the casino. Apparently he did pretty well and left a tip for the waitress looking after him - he paid her University tuition outright, for her as a thankyou.
With so much corruption at the 'top end of town' in Australia it was always refreshing to see Kerry Packer as an example of what a genuine business man could accomplish.

Yeah, although he was no alter boy either.
The battle between him and Murdock over Super League - that was intense. Then what Packer did with "One day cricket", and the stoush with the ACB. Legendary stuff indeed.

True. You don't make an omlette without breaking a few eggs along the way.

Just one example of his kindness
Quote:
Dr Bailey, who travelled with Mr Packer when he went to the US for heart valve surgery, said he was often touched by Mr Packer's generosity.
While in New York, Mr Packer stopped his limousine to place a wad of money in the hands of a homeless man, clothed in a garbage bag.
"When he saw that man he said, 'He will die in the cold. He wouldn't die like that if he were homeless in Australia'," Dr Bailey said.
"He would do things like that for other people, even when he was half dying himself."

He is the man who introduced one day cricket matches and started these day-night matches in cricket
May his soul rest in peace
