Question

Opera Question ... Disable 'back/forward' via Left Click - Right Click

^ Ok. Stupid Question and hope it makes sense.

But in Opera you can go back a page and forward a page by left-click and right click.

But how in the world do I disable it?

I seriously don't see any kind option to disable it in preferences?? lol! I must be blind b/c I don't see it.

Anyone know how to disable it? I keep going back and forth in pages when browsing in opera.

btw, hi WHT! Long time no see.

That sounds kinda like you might have mouse gestures or something turned on.

Preferences > Advanced > Shortcuts > uncheck the box that says "Enable mouse gestures" if it is checked.

I don't use Opera -- but, do you have something setup in your mouse drivers? My Logitech mouse software has customization options for this kind of 'feature' (which is the first thing I disable).

I'm pretty sure he's referencing the opera feature where you can hold right and click left to go back, or vice versa to go forward. Ironically, it's my favorite feature in Opera.

Mouse gestures are separate from this, IIRC.

----

Did a quick check around Opera and on Google, doesn't look like you can disable it.. you can try searching around your user pref files maybe?

Of course you can disable it; in fact it was one of the first things I disabled when installing Opera. I simply use the keyboard shortcuts for going back and forward a page.

Go to: Tools > Pref > Advanced > Shortcuts

Select "opera standard" in Mouse Setup and click Edit. Search “Flip” and then delete the shortcuts for FlipBack and FlipForward. Then you’ll have no more problems.

Hope this helps.

Hey, yeah it's been checked off and it's so annoying. Opera's perfect in all ways but this little glitch.

nope. It's just a dell optical mouse and it's not the mouse drivers or software. It doesn't do it in IE.

It's an Opera deal but I don't see the option to disable it even though 'mouse gestures' has been turned off.

It's a great feature but somehow I keep accidently clicking the left click / right click. Don't ask how I do this; I'm stumped too. lol

WoW! That was IT! I have never seen preferences set up that way. I did look in Mouse setup but had no clue which one was it was b/c it wasn't labled what I figured it might have been called.

Thank you! That was it.

Opera's great isn't it

Acsiak: Thank you so much! I registered just to tell you that

I read so many guides on the web on how to disable opera gestures, they all say the same thing: just untick the checkbox!

Well that didn't fix my left-click+right-click problem. Even with that damn checkbox unmarked I would still find my browser moving forward and back against my will. Never again!

Cheers

You should be able to find all settings here : type opera:config in address field and press enter

To find mouse settings search for mouse (or probably flip )

There will be a default setting or uncheck box...just hit it and restart Opera

I joined this forum SPECIFICALLY to thank you, Acsiak - Andrew, for this tremendous help. It has been aggravating me for YEARS and today, after losing a long and carefully composed message once too many times due to simultaneous left and right-click, I found the answer I was looking for.

I know this thank you note comes more than FIVE YEARS after the post, sorry for breaking netiquette, but I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for this, you are a lifesaver for the many people who just like myself, are typing-challenged. It is a forgotten issue few seem to understand, that no correction software takes into account: that people know how to write or what to type, but are simply fine-motor-skill challenged.

Of course, that opens up another subject entirely, the awkwardness and aggravations of modern keyboarding, but your post proves this is a real problem not only for newbies, and I thank you again for posting this little gem up.

Chris C.
