Toronto area bandwidth providers, need advice.

    Hello,

Our company has finally gotten our ASN and we're looking to bring in a third or fourth provider. Currently we use Enersource (BGP mix of bigpipe, cogent, videotron. We are hoping to get off this provider), and a direct Cogent line for cheap high bandwidth usage.

Now were looking to improve our reliability and peering within canada specifically. We have contacted Shaw Bigpipe, MCI, Rogers and Bell. They are willing to buildout to our facility, but we are also considering a backhaul to 151 Frontstreet. As is Bigpipe and MCI are looking the most attractive, and we are shooting for ~100/mbit range.

Any experiences with these GTA providers, or alternate recommendations?

You should definately backhaul into 151 Front.St. That way, you can get whatever provider you like.

Pricing is depended on commitment to the carrier. If you could buy alot of bandwidth, it will drive prices down.

Depending where you are within the GTA you might want to look at getting a backhaul to 151 via Toronto Hydro. They are quite cheap in cost if they dont have to do any major install's.

Its going to come down to the costs of brining lines to you via a carrier or droping into 151 setting up either via a provider or your own hardware We have brought a 100mbit link to Brampton Ontario from 151 and costs bout 3k a month just for the link via Toronto Hydro. Not bad price for the distance it had to carried to.

Are there any other major links going into your location? Not sure if your in your own building or shared space. Might wana see if there any fiber going
