Installing Apache On Home Computer

HI, I'm trying to install apache, php, and mysql on my home computer. But I'm running into a problem.

I can't get apache to start up. I just installed apache, 1.3.34 on my windows media center pc. I already installed php and mysql. I"m following this book by this guy name Larry Ullman "Php and Mysql for dynamic web sites 2nd edition".

I get this error when trying to star appache using cmd on run.

Quote:
Net Start Apache
The apache service could not be started
The service did not report any errors
Is apache compatiable with my windows media center pc? Can I even install apache, php and mysql on my pc? I just want to start learning how to use php and mysql on my comp without having to go online and do it.

Are there any errors in the log file? (It's been a long time since I setup Apache on a win32 machine)...

Nope, it didn't report any errors. Maybe it's not compatible with my xp media center pc?

Check the Application section of your Event Viewer, that will probably have a clue to the problem. I have Media Center and have Apache/PHP/MySQL installed, so it's possible... =)

Just remove the installation, and download and install apache2triad

Its the complete package ( including mail, webmail and ftp )

It also allows for SSL

For clarity's sake, don't use "<ip address of hostname>" use the ACTUAL 32-bit numeric IP address of the machine.
