    Download Tracker

I am looking to be able to track how many times a single file has been download from a webserver. I cannot seem to find out if this is possible. The server is running awstats but I do not think this will happen through that program

It is possible I can put the files on an html page though and have a file list. Would it be easier to do it this way?

    thanks,
    Reed

Awstats will show what files are accessed, but you are better off using a php or perl/cgi solution to track downloads through a counter system.

A quick and dirty way of doing it would be:
    grep '<filename>.*200' /var/log/httpd/access.log | wc -l

... but long term it'd be better to get a package that does it. Sawmill works pretty well.

splunker, that may be the way it needs to be done. it doesnt have to be pretty as it is for internal access only and not that big of deal
