    Testing: canaca and eastendhosting.com

The last day I have heard about canaca.com and eastendhosting.com, both offering HUGE storage.
    Canaca = 40 GB
    Eastend = 45 GB

Canaca tops it with a huge bandwidth offer 1.000GB, but eastendhosting.com are more moderate with 45 GB.

I signup for both 01.45 GMT time 11.12.05

    I had to pay for three months at canaca.com ($7.95*3 = $23.85)

    At eastendhosting.com I had to pay $9.95

    Status 14.50 GMT 11.12.05:
From Canaca I have not go any reply...not a mail, not anything.

From eastendhosting.com I got a welcome mail with my 2co.com receipt.
But on their pages they write: Setup Time 30 Seconds

So they have to use some other time that others, for it's now 46.800 seconds since I ordered . And I did not order any domains with the plan.

And some other drawbacks with their AUP:

"The intention of East End Hosting is to provide a large space to serve web documents, not an off site storage area for electronic files. All (90%) of your web pages (html) must be 'linked' with files (.GIF, .JPEG, etc.) stored on East End Hosting's server. Web sites that are found to contain either/or no html documents, a large number of unlinked files are subject to warning, suspension or cancellation at the discretion of East End Hosting management"

Canaca.com have no terms of use who limit the conent:

    Q. What is the catch ? Do you put banners or require banners ?

    A. No, you can put whatever you want on your website as long as it is legal.

So I will se how this goes. I don't think I will get the money back if I want it back, but at the other side: If their service are good, maybe one of them will be the right backup host for me (maybe not eastend...since the want me to store 45 GB of .html pages (hmmm...maybe rename som of my .rar files to .html, they can not force me to have WORKING .html files....)

I will post results as they come.

Maybe....I want to test them, and I have a dedicated server that I have canceled, but that I have to 21.12
I have a 1000GB limit there on a 10mbps line. So I can transfer some GB.....

But I have to check with my old hosting company if that is OK that I use my bandwidth to this test. I don't want to make any problems for them, since I'm was verry happy with them.

    An Update 18.37 GMT 11.12.05

My account at eastendhosting are now online. I'm have created a domain, and wil start using the account today.

I did talk to the support, beacause their AUP. I wanted to know if I could have some big backup files, and not 90% .htm/.html files. and they told me that I could store my files on their server. But if some of the files was xxx or warez, I had to move to another server.

the server I got have 331 other websites.

I have a monitor to check uptime etc:
    http://www.hyperspin.com/publicrepor...8/8621/3/53605

They uses Hostingdepartment, so I have to monitor them close, for I'm not very happy with hostingdepartment....

The website I will use on the server is: myhken-test.com, I have udated the nameservers now.

Still not any reply from canaca.com......

Yes, they have low bandwidth and much storage.....
But they have VERY slow up/downlink speeds. 400KB/s uplink and 1.0 MB/s downlink.

I have created a worklog for this test with pictures:

So far so good. Glad to see an impartial thought out test and review of a host instead of the usual "They suck" type of thread for once. Not very surprised the canaca has not replied..lol.

    Only a small update:

    12.12.05 - 03.49 GTM

I uploaded 6.3 GB to eastendhosting. No problems.....so not so bad.
Slow speed, but OK. If I want to use this as a backup for my plesk backup files, I don't need full speed. But....they use Hostdepartment, and...their server are not so great.

I uploaded files from 100MB to 1,5 GB

I have put a link to hyperspin, so all can see the server uptime. Still 100%....

And the link: See my signature

I will add speeddrive on my short list. I'm testing a lot of hostingcompanies out there, and when I'm done with the test I have now, I will start on the next sites on my list.

But I have no way that I can test if I can use all their bandwidth. I have only 1000GB of bandwidth on my dedicated server, and I have to use some of that on my webpages etc....

But a disk test - no problem.

    New update: 12.12.05 - 22.50 GTM

I had to post a ticket to canaca thru their webpages. then I got a reply telling me that they had the wrong phone number, so they did not reach me. They never did send any mails.

I had to call them, before they can activate my account. So I did that, and with my bad English, the total phone costs was around $11 (I had to call three time, first time the line was broken, second time I was put on hold for 8 minutes and the last time I got a fast reply....)

So Michael from the sales department told me that the account will be ready within 24 hours from now.

So now have I used akmost $35, and still no website.....

Check my page: http://myhken.info/worklog_canaca.htm for the last updates.

    Eastendhosting have still 100% uptime...

    New update: 13.12.05 22.47 GTM

My canaca.com account is up and running. They called to tell me that the welcome mail had bounced. But they tried once more and I got the mail, but they called to hear that I had got the mail.
I have updated the work log: http://myhken.info/worklog_canaca.htm , and will update more tomorrow. But I have to tell that they have a very good and fast support. When I got the mail and logged in to my account, I did discover that I only had got 20 GB storage and 400 GB bandwidth. I opened a ticket, and two minutes later they had fix the problem. I have also sent one ticket about the slow uplink speed (500kb/s) and I got a reply after few minutes.
So very good support so far, maybe Im having asked them in the normal work hours.

At this time, except the slow uplink, Im very happy. This can bee my new backup site. I will run some test, but I will not try to overload the system. I will also post new screenshots whenever I have a new thing to update. I have to test the site also, so maybe at the end of the month, we can have a download day, so I can se if I can use all of the 1.000GB.

If that was the case, then everybody who has some problems, who uses this forum, would have solved all their problems...
But of course, you can be correct also. If I can use this site for backup, I will use them for a long time. So you will be noticed if I have some trouble.

To bad their uplink are so slow. 500kb/s uplink are too slow for me. To bad you only have one year plans….or I had signup for one of yours plans.
    My need are around 20GB – 50-100GB bandwidth.. and a fast uplink (<1.5 MB/s)

I have to admit. I've used Canaca before also. They are quick at support, but I too had problems when I tried to sign up for an account. If I can remember correctly, it took around 3 days for them to get my account created due to "server mail issues". They never did call me. Anyways, I find this topic very interesting.

Just Got TOTALLY SCREWED by Canaca

Canaca is unbelievable, never host with them. They just totally screwed me over, shut down my account without notice, said I was overloading their server, how do you do that?

Is there any legal recourse against these people?

No comment on how to get my data base, etc.

I use a FRACTION of the band width I bought, a FRACTION of the hard drive I bought, gold account, two years, CANACA is MASSIVE FRAUD!

This horrible post seems just a little too convenient to this topic, especially since this user registered today. Could you give us some proof that you've even had a Canaca account?

I'm sorry for being skeptical, but it is all just to convenient to be believable!

    How long at Canaca?

Yeah, we will have been at Canaca two years in Feb, but we pay in Jan.

I might ad that with our account being suspended without warning, all of our email saved is gone too, many many records.

Can you legally do this to a customer, just delete them and claim they are overloading their server space?

How do you overload server space when you use a fraction of your bandwidth and a fraction of your hard drive allotment on a gold plan?

Here is our welcome email that we got from Canaca in 2004:

akha: Be carefull so you dont get this thread closed. Why not post some screenshots from you attemp to contact Canaca?
Have you used the form on their page? What do you write in the mails etc......and whats their reply?

Whenever I use their ticket system from their page, they reply very fast. I have used High or Urgent for status.

I know that you'r angry, but give us all the facts....not only your side.

As you know, I'm not a big canaca fan, since I signup on sunday. But give them a change to do the right
    thing.

    Update: 14.12.05 -- 08.38 GMT
Edit: No reply from IN-HOSTS.com on my cancel mail/ticket. No reply on the mail asking for TOS or AUP either. And they(bear) removed my posts from the ad thread. So not very fast support from IN-HOSTS

#5 This is the one where they suddenly remember why my site is off line:

    Dear Client,
    Hello!
Your account has been suspended due to overloading the server. You have to upgrade your account to either Vps or Fully dedicated server which can bear the load of your account and you will have more resources in that package.

Those are the tickets from the time the server was first down.

Five hours and then went down completely for a day before they said that i needed more server space.

OK, fine, but don't shut down someone's site.

And I have two sites at Canaca and will not be using either one. That is $500 per year.

    Monday. Down five hours.
Tuesday down all day. An emergency, they thought it was still on line.
Wed morning I get email that I need a new server.

They have a VERY slow FTP, I have some problems too, but when I have logged in, I can transfer my data. But yesterday, I had to transfer one of my big files (1,4 GB) three times before I got it on the server.

I will test some more the next days.....

akha: I hope canaca can fix your problem...
