    Long IP

Earlier tonight, I was on irc, and somebody mentioned something that involves what is known as long ip.

That gave me an idea to start a website where the average user could get their own longip. After doing a tiny bit of php scripting, the website was made. So, i went to my domain registrar, and sure enough - a couple gems were available. Those gems are http://longip.com and http://mylongip.com .

So, i grabbed both, setup a hosting account, uploaded my work, and it was set.

I showed it to some people i know, and most of them were amazed to see that it actually works. Some of them asked "Why longip?", The answer; because you want to look smarter than the people who are using regular ip's.

So, I've made the website. It's a simple little design, with everything on the main page, ready to be used.

I don't care much about the design, i just want something quick, simple. Just review the functionality for me, and i'll implement whatever features you want to see.

The functionality is fine, I just don't understand the purpose and how to use it. Might want to have some more information on this, as well as smaller text.

It works just like your regular ip, supported on just about every program that supports internet protocol.

How do you use it though? The site doesn't really explain anything about it and I'm assuming the average user wouldn't already know (I don't).

Well the - in the longip is required, why? I have no idea. But that's still short a number.

They call it a LongIP because.. I don't know, maybe because it's harder to remember. That is what it's called though.

Both, but i'd say the one that's decimated is easier.

That's because it's not a valid ip. The last octet is larger than 255.
