changing server's IP

Hi,

I am still waiting for the request of chaning IP to my server - My question is how much work involved in chaning to new IP that I have to deal with. The provider is a managed one, thus I am guessing they will help me with the change. What are other things I need to take care of on my own beside updating nameserver for all domains hosted on the server.

Thanks!

You should contact your provider and ask them this because there could be lot of work involved and potential downtime based on your configuration if not done properly.

Hey,

The only other thing I can think of that might need changing would be reverse DNS (if it was ever set up in the first place), but that would be on your providers end. Other then that, the <VirtualHost> lines on your httpd.conf might need changing. Mine is set up with <VirtualHost primaryip:80> so if my IP changed that would need to be updated.

You should be good to go once you make those changes

Thanks for the tips. btw, the server seemed to be used for spamming before. I am just unlucky to get this box with this IP about more than a week ago. All mails to hotmail, yahoo, etc have been bounced back.

Just changing the IP won't help you.
Ok you can deliver mails for few day without any problem. You must identify the source/cause of the SPAM. Otherwise sooner or later you will again have to change your IP

best regards,

To mange this I think either you should give the responsibility to your DC if they support this in their managed plans or hire someone.

Otherwise if you have no expirience in this then you may see downtime.

best regards,
As i understand it from his posts he has just got this server with the culprit IP, so it may not have been this particular box which was doing the spamming. He just got a new box.

changing the domians IP means there will be downtime for the website. if you are using the IP in the server itself this will be little downtime.
