Motherboard for Supermicro SC933T-R760
I going to use the SC933T-R760 for a large raid system and need a suitable motherboard - something p4 based. Supermicro boards such as the P8SCI board would be ideal their compatiability chart doesn't say if it fits. The board will also need a pci-x socket for a raid controller. Any suggestions?

we've installed plenty of P8SCI in SC933T with good success. you do need to remove the air shroud which is intended for supermicro dual socket 604 board only. there is great air flow in there, air shroud is not necessary for single P4, or single/dual Opteron board, and Intel/AMD stock cooling unit is just fine.
be aware that:
1. some new generation of SATA-II/SAS/u320 RAID cards are capable of 133mhz, but the PCI-X slot on P8SCI (E7221 chipset) or X6DVx (E7320 chipset) are limited to 66mhz.
2. although you can physically install 4x 1G DDR2 on P8SCI, but BIOS can only make 3.1GB availabe to OS due to the limitation of Intel E72xx chipset.

Thanks for the information
Most likely we will go for a 3ware 9550SX card which is 133mhz so will bear this in mind.

SC933 can have 15 SATA drives. What SATA RAID controller can handle all these 15 drives?

Areca also makes one with 24-ports for those AIC/Chenbro 24-bays 4U/5U chassis.

regardless 3ware or Areca, make sure you buy the BBU, and assign 1~2 HDDs as global hot-spare's.
