crazyhostguy sucks -- HELP!! legal action?

Please help/advise....I have a reseller plan with crazyhostguy....I have 9 sites on their server. Past few months server reliability has been HORRENDOUS (see related complaint on this site by another customer). So yesterday I told them I wanted to transfer all my sites to a more reliable host. Immediately following this I find all my accounts have been suspended!!!! I have paid them thru June of next year (in fact they overbilled me by $40 and have yet to put the money back on my card even after repeated requests that they do so, and even after showing them my bank statement), and I haven't exceeded any bandwidth or disk space limits....not even close. They are ignoring all my emails. So basically they've sabotaged all my sites. I can transfer the static content, but I have a significant amount of mysql content on their servers that I stupidly haven't back up in a while. So I have no way to access this and get the sites fully operative on the new host's servers.

My guess is crazyhostguy is pissed at the angry messages and insults I've thrown at the owner (totally justified, given the horrendous servier reliability, and given they've stolen $40 from me). But being angry at a customer is obviously no legitimate reason to suspend a customer's account. And now my and my customers have our hands tied. What can be done? Obviously I can and will be writing many reviews about this experience, but for now I just want to get my sites running on my new hosts server. Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Ooo - I would not have told them you were leaving. Unfortunately (and very unprofessionally), many hosts do get quite mad when you tell them this.

Perhaps you could have a lawyer write a letter for you? I myself would not advise jumping straight into legal action, as it could become quite costly.

An easy course of action would probably be to file a chargeback with your bank account. That way you'll get your money back.

I think he's more interested in his data, though!

"Any advice appreciated, thanks."

I'm guessing that your data's a write-off. Next time, back up your data. Also, wait until you're in a position of strength before attacking.

My condolences. I've been in a similar situation, and it's really hard. I back my stuff up multiple times, now.

Here's an idea - why not tell them that you have reconsidered - and that you want to keep your 9 accounts (and maybe many more) on their servers.

Then get their help in restoring the accounts.

QUICKLY - back up database and site content.

Arrange to move sites when you're really ready.

Could work.

Maybe if you had asked them nicely, you would not be in this situation right now. Nothing you can do now except maybe apologize, if they are nice enough they might provide you with a backup of your data.

Suspending your account and not responding to emails because you informed them that you wanted to change provider is very unprofessional. You admit that you sent angry and insulting messages after they cancelled, which is also unprofessional. Did you send these type of messages prior to being suspended and they were fed up with the abuse? I'm only asking because there are always two sides to every story.

I would recommend giving them a call a 1-866-466-4255 and speak to them in a professional manner and get this worked out.

Yes, before you start any sort of dispute with a host you should back everything up & then keep it backed up very frequently. Your own backups are always needed, but the risks of data loss increase when the relationship with the host deteriorates and backups are needed more often.

Because that would be lying.

But it would also be lying, and that is what makes it wrong.

Yes, I did get angry, but only AFTER I repeatedly asked them to put $40 that they took off my card back on it, and they repeatedly ignored this request. That's theft!! So yes, I was very angry, and I said some mean things on the phone, but please, theft is theft!!! And from a webhost!!

Consider that my sites have been down for days at a time, consider that they overbilled me $40 and refuse to put it back on the card even though my bank has verified that they overbilled, consider that at no point did they warn of the major downtimes (sometimes DAYS) or even apologize after they occured....I hope you can see where my anger comes from. It is not a matter of being reasonable, this company is totally unreasonable. ANd I tried speaking with someone at that number, I only got a mailbox, so talking to a live person isn't even an option. Yet they quickly responding to another support request from a friend that also is unfortunate enough to be hosted by them (but who will be quickly switching hosts too).

So I can't call them, and I can't email them. I've tried this and there is noone on the other end. Not an option.

lookingfornewhost,

Don't let folks get you worked up. I can understand that sometimes it is easy to get mad at a service provider who is not playing nice.

Again, I would recommend getting a lawyer to send a letter asking them to release your data, especially since it is quite valuable.

Well it looks like the only reason your accounts were suspended is because you sent abusive & insulting emails to them.
