Click the 'Search' button on the top. Do a search on Hostgator and then another one on Site5. Decide for yourself.
Both are reputable companies and popular here on WHT, so I doubt you'll have any problems finding information, or seeing which one meets your needs.
Best of luck.

wow thats a tough question ... both hold their respective positions and are one of the most reputed hosts over here on wht.
Well not sure about the other features, but the one that I remember is that site5 offers overselling while hostgator does not.
Although I am not 100 sure, hence I would suggest you contact their respective sales departments to know more.

HostGator has a cooler image, in my opinion, but I know you're looking for reliability and not the cool factor! Therefore, I think either one will do, if both of them offer the services/prices you need.

I've been in this forum for about a month now. I've seen the same comparison 3 or 4 times!
If you search WHT for the title you chose for this thread you will find a couple of useful threads.
IMO both are good and very well known and have a lot of positive reviews (yet there were some negative a s well).

Site5 is disappointing. They are slow in bringing new updates and still uses MySQL 4.x and Apache 1.x. Moreover, their in-house control panel is very basic and lack the features you would normally find.
There's an attitude problem too, check out their forum.

I think you'd be better off with HostGator. Site5 has been getting a lot of complaints lately for slow support.
If you do a search on here, you will see the negative comments.
Best of luck

Site5's support is getting slower and slower. The old 15 minute average response is more like 45 minute average response now
I think I share the same opinion that another Site5 customer and member of this forum has:
"Site5 is far from perfect but it's way better than any of my previous hosts. JMHO"
Good luck!

briefcaseman,
Only a very few hosts so far have upgraded to MySQL 5. Site5 should not be singled out for not having done this.

Definately go with Hostgator. Their support times are incredible. There's the occasional ticket that takes awhile depending on the problem, but I would guess 95% or more of the tickets get replies in like 5-10 mins. They are probably the fastest growing host out right now due to their price point for unlimited domains feature that everyone is copying now or trying to beat.

....Ahh, famous last words: fastest growing. Site5 was in the exact same position long before, and look what happened to them here....they've had a nauseating amount of b|tching to contend with about their growing pains. If enough people load up HostGator like they did Site5, they'll have to deal with the exact same garbage. If I were a client of theirs, I'd love to see them triple their prices, just to drive off all the rif-raf that could eventually bog the whole place down. But that probably won't happen now, will it...

Trip,
With all due respect, if HostGator tripled their prices, I think they'd have more problems than if they were overloaded with clients.

Dan, I am willing to bet that general economics still applies with HostGator. There must be a balance somewhere, between generating high client numbers with low prices and generating fewer clients with higher prices. In both cases, it would be optimal to think that 300 clients paying $10 a month would favorably reduce to 100 clients paying $30 a month if HG tripled their price and 200 clients were to leave. (For you slower ones out there, the host is hypothetically making $3,000 either way).
So in this example, by thinking they'd be worse off, you're assuming that they'd lose more than 200 clients, and thus would be make less than the profits they made by charging $10 instead of $30. In general, we could debate about what that number would be, and whether it would or wouldn't be worth it. But what we can probably agree on is the fact that fewer clients paying more to share the same amount of resources would result in a more optimized shared environment....This is assuming, of course, that HostGator would not decrease their offering as they decrease their prices. Then we'd back to square one.
