Question

1and1 Internet vs. Site5

I'm trying to get my organization to switch from 1and1 to Site5 because I haven't heard a lot of good things about 1and1, particularly poor customer service, reliability, and I've been having trouble with the webmail. After carefully researching Site5 and their history, I would just feel more comfortable going with them, although they've had problems but I've always seen them work to fix it.

My issue is I have to submit a proposal and "convince" my organization to move. Of course it's easier for them to stay where they are and 1and1 does offer more (disk space/bandwidth) for the money - 5GB/250GB for $4.99/month vs 6GB/75GB for $9.75/month, but that low price seems to be ridiculous and you get what you pay for. They're open to moving but just need a convincing argument for it, especially since they know of another organization that hasn't complained about 1and1.

Can anyone help me out with some advice, give your experience with either company, or let me know something I may not be thinking of?

Thanks a lot.

NCB

Hi,

I would definitely first do some research on whether if Site5 will be compatible for your and have all the features you and your organization will need, also be sure to double check on compatibility issues and inquire if the site transfer would work out smoothly or if they'll help you along the transfer process.

WHT here has many reviews on either one of the hosts above, so I'd definitely spend some doing looking through all the threads on both of these hosts.

Good luck with your search.

I've had direct interactions with both. I'm actually usually fairly satisfied with 1&1's uptime and server performance (keyword-usually), but their support sucks, and everythings hard to setup and configure.

I would definately recommend site5 over 1&1, but you may want to consider some other hosts as well, even if just for reference.
Good luck

i am currently hosted with site5.
no problems with their uptime, nearly 100% here.
no problems with their support, solved all the problems i have.
the only gripe i have is that their replies (to tech support questions) isnt fast, sometimes it could take up to 6 hrs!

5GB/250GB for $4.99/month really sounds ridiculous. Otherwise 1and1 are well know hosting provider in UK and Europe. They have recently announced they enter the US hosting market.

Regards
D.

Wow, 1&1 really increased their package specs.
Be aware though, when I signed up with 1&1, the bandwidth offered on my plan was 100g/month, but after about 3 months, they decreased it to 25g/month and the changed affected the current accounts.
