here is no guaranteed success in the internet?
Quoted from someone at another forum

.....Not to be discouraging but there is no guaranteed success in the internet. In my opinion if saying I ran a hosting company as your resume then you're going to be out of luck if it fails.

Is he right? Do you agree with him?
Edit
I can't change the title but it's 'there' instead of 'here'

everyone can not run successful hosting company. Not all people possess technical knowledge and its not possible for all people to remain dedicated 24x7x365 for hosting business.
Its not one day job, it may take few years to gain reputation and i am sure many of them will just give up.

As mentioned this is pretty obvious as there is no guaranteed success in anything in life.

I disagree with this one. Running a hosting company can be a kid with Mom's credit card or it can be someone responsible for 20 employees. Depending on the hosting company and how you ran it and how it failed, this could be something very good to have on your resume.

The marketplace is competitive, fast and tech-driven, certainly there's no easy way to get success but inspite of all odds people are still being successful in hosting business.
You need a solid business plan and good source of funding your business. If you implement the changes and bring technical advancement in your field as per the need of your customers, you might be successful.

Not only is there not any guaranteed success in anything, but nothing at all is guaranteed, period -- in success or something else. It's an important thing to remember in the chaotic, busy world that we live in.

Few people die peacefully leaving millions of dollars for their children and grand children and for charity, and few dies leaving the medical bills unpaid. Really it is embarrassing me some time for the second one.

Failure brings you one step closer to success... if you keep at it. Succeeding at something requires you to be focused and determined... and it requires an excellent work ethic and a bias towards action.
So what if you fail? Learn from your mistakes and try again. The only thing guaranteed in life is death -- so ask yourself, when you're on your deathbed, will you regret not having tried to succeed at something?

Some people succeed at failing. But as others have said, no guarantees. I just love hearing someone guarantee something that can easily be out of their control. It happens too often and I see people get burned all the time by their guarantees.

Agreed.
We all have our own definitions of what success means. For some it's being able to earn enough income online, that it becomes their full-time job. For others it's more about making some extra income. For some, it's being able to build a dream home. Success means different things to different folks.
I've tasted the bitterness of failure, and I've also tasted the sweetness of success. Success was much nicer, but failure tought me tough lessons, that eventually lead to success.
I'm not sure exactly what it takes to succeed in the hosting business. You need so many different skillsets, all working together. You need to be a good and honest communicator, as this business is very people/service driven. You need dedication and commitment. You need a sense for business and be proficient at cashflow management.
I do think that it's much tougher to be starting a hosting business now, than it was 3, 4 or 5 years ago. There's much more competition now, and the pricing levels has fallen through the floor. The entry level for hosts is now practically at zero, hence the flood of new hosts coming onto the market. There's still a nice market to tap out there, for those hosts prepared to work hard.
