The first 2GB would be $45 since the server already comes with 512Mb. We could give you a private vlan , for this you would also need to rent a private switch for your servers. We accept VISA,MC,Paypal, Wire Transfers. Minimum period would be 1 Month. We can provide servers higher than Xeon 2.0 however those are the server on special , please email [email protected] for a custom quote.

There may be some filtering going on.
if you use windows tracert it will work -- Windows Tracert sends ICMP packets, while unix traceroute uses UDP datagrams
or just telling traceroute to use ICMP: traceroute -I 66.96.81.78
    here's my output:

Yes I also noticed recently a noticeable drop in my dedicated 10mbps server's download speed with HiVelocity. I have had that server at Hivelocity since Feb. 2005 and am now having slow download speeds at many times during the day at HiVelocity.net. My server load is usually less than 5% of my 10mbps pipe, so it appears that they may be experiencing some oversubscribed backbone lines currently.

Hopefully HiVelocity will add more backbone capacity to their unmetered servers, as much of the day I get a 75kbps download from my 10Mbps server with no other users hitting the server. I am even thinking of switching away from HiVelocity if their download speeds don't improve and stay mostly above 120kbps for me when no other users are downloading from my 10Mbps box. Speeds from my HiVelocity server (at times no one else is using the 10mbps pipe) should be at least 300 or 400kbps for my cable modem, as I can get that from other web hosting providers, and HiVelocity used to give me those download speeds from my 10Mbps dedicated server.

And it appears not to be just my server as their speed test link in this thread is now pulling only 80 to 90kbps for me tonight as I write this. Sure looks like oversold bandwidth problems to me. I hope someone from HiVelocity can clarify what seems to be going on that is causing the slowdown in download speeds.

I can't understand how this may be possible. You should try some other locations, as perhaps its your cable provider who is maxed out.

I'm not even a customer, but just using their speed test link, I tried from numerous providers and got amazing results:

GNAX over cogent: 10554432 bytes transferred in 2 seconds (6.21M/s)
Voxrox over cogent: 10555184 bytes transferred in 2 seconds (5.19M/s)
sigmaservers over pnap/level3: 10554096 bytes transferred in 3 seconds (3.44M/s)
serverstra over savvis/level3: 10547568 bytes transferred in 4 seconds (2.50M/s)

the only slightly dissapointing one was serverpronto -- but what do you expect.
Serverpronto on cogent: 10552288 bytes transferred in 18 seconds (559.0K/s)

LogicX, it is good to know that you ran the above speed tests and it is unlikely a problem with HiVelocity and rather perhaps a routing problem to my ISP. HiVelocity contacted me within minutes of my post and has agreed to research my problem. Just wanted to share that to help encourage anyone reading this thread considering HiVelcoity that their support for me has always been very good.

I have had the same experience recently with and opened a trouble ticket today (changing from half->full duplex did not help). No response on the ticket yet.

I used to consistently be able to max out my 6mbit line at home and my 10mbit line at work from my hivelocity 10mbit unmbetered server. For the past 2 weeks I have consistently been running at ~1mbit, and the download oftentimes just stall out (especially when I try multiple connections to the server from home and work)! The server isn't live yet, so there is no other traffic going to it other than my own.

Here is the URL for my test set

    50 meg file (http)
    69.46.19.187/test.zip

    10 meg file (http)
    69.46.19.187/10meg.file

Here are the speedtest results from today from the advertised hivelocity server and my 10mbit unmetered server (all numbers in kilobytes/sec)

    time hivelocityy mine

    11:54 463.93 155.86
    13:50 577.65 122.45
    14:50 520.21 106.76
    15:45 473.15 105.39
    17:20 414.9 118.44
    17:43 461.18 123.07

I used wget to retrieve the 10meg test file from the hivelocity speedtest server (first number), and then immediatel used wget to get the same 10meg file from my 10mbps unmetered server (second number)

Interestingly, the numbers from my server seem to remain consistenloy low throughout the day while the hivelocity server's fluctuate.

    Any ideas?

    -Tom

P.S. there was also this funny issue when cogent and level3 depeered. I couldn't get to the first IP (69.46.19.187) from my roadrunner (cogent) connection, but all of the other aliased IP's (69.46.19.188-192) worked! I chatted with tech support about it and they couldn't figure it out!

P.P.S. other than that, I've been really impressed with Hivelocity's support. They are always quick to address my concerns and communicate very well.

10MB test file @69.46.19.187/10meg.file downloaded at 207KBytes/sec (1.656mbit/sec) for me just now.

Both were not the same solution , for your server we basically optimized your TCPIP stack and reset your switch port.

evangelist's issue was slightly different in that the nic had to be set to 10mbps full duplex and the switch port reset.

Well, it seems to be working much better now! Thank you.

Any idea what caused this problem (it was rather spontaneous, I didn't change any TCP/IP settings)? Should I expect that it may happen again in the future?

In any case, unbelievable response time on the support! A+++

    If I understand it correctly:

    # Celeron 2.13 Ghz
    # 512 MB Ram
    # 40 GB hard drive
    # 6 ips
    # 1000 GB monthly bandwidth 10Mbps switch port
    # Windows 2003 Web
    ======
    $59/month with $0/setup

And is this "Price freeze guaranteed" offer, or you may increase the prices (like managed did recently) in future?

Looking forward for your reply and getting this server really soon.

    Thanks

We can only guarantee the price for as long as you prepay for. There are no price increases planned , but that is not to say it will never happen.

Hello, thanks for your reply, I have to make a decision between you guys or hostgator.com and I think that you advertise 24/7 chat support, and the person who took care of me as you can read, could not manage my simple tech questions or transfer me somewhere else, that is NOT 24/7 chat support...

    Regards,

    * are you sure ?

Juan: Hello I am interested in shared web hosting
    Hello,
softair (Juan) - this thread is about a dedicated servers offer, not about a shared hosting. This is something different.

Juan: you are advertising a different thing and I will post this chat at
    Juan: .webhostingtalk.com
    Check http://www.hivelocity.net/Impressive-Support/ and read

Our Experienced support team is dedicated to helping you get your questions answered in the quickest possible time, 24 hours a day.

The quickest possible time does not mean "immediately".

Then Vick R. asked you to hold on (few times), because

Vick R.: let me check with our admin tech
but you didn't give him a possibilities to answer.

Seems to be false advertisemente Ericsson.
    Are you sure ?
    Because I am not.

    Regards

    Juan/Softair,

IMHO you are out of line here. They were BOTH tech and sales questions (you wanted specs on a product/service you were about to purchase. That kind of falls under the sales category as well). The representative asked you to hold while she found the answer and you repeatedly accosted her for not being able to offer an immediate answer. As far as I am concerned, the fact that there was a representative there capable of investigating your question when you asked it does indicate 24/7 tech support.

Without knowing much about your background, I can tell that you probably haven't worked with REALLY smart people. I do research work for a little agency that rhymes with MASA, and just to clue you in, it's not uncommon for someone to say "I can't answer your question right now, but give me some time to think about it and/or confer with someone that DOES know the answer"

    -Tom

P.S. please stop using the hivelocity chat feature to be a tool. I am one of their customers, and may be trying to get in touch with one of these people while you are dicking around...

  38. #38
Hello, I dont to argue with you guys, I am a consumer and if Hivelocity advertises 24/7 chat support I think I am entitled to chat and make sure what they offer is what one get. I am sorry if your sales rep. was not able to handle the situation, those were not questions out of the span of a sales rep. and if they were, then she could have transfered me to support, that was not available...

I respect your company and I ask you to respect our right to act as educated consumers even if that touches your commercial goals.

I hope this discussion gets to an end point soon and I hope you can appreciate other people's feedback.
