    * Winning lottery ticket purchased with stolen credit card

A woman bought a winning lottery ticket worth $1 million with a stolen credit card and could wind up with nothing if convicted, police said.

Christina Goodenow, 38, of White City in southern Oregon faced numerous theft-related charges, forgery and possession of methamphetamine, said authorities, who searched her home Thursday. The card belonged to a deceased relative, they said.

If convicted of any of the charges, Goodenow will not be able to collect prize money from the winning ticket, said police Lt. Tim George.

I am not 100% sure, but I believe here in Michigan you can not buy a lottery ticket on credit. I was not even able to use my debit card to purchase an instant win ticket with some other things at my local tobacco shop.

I live in Wisconsin, and work in Minnesota. Neither allow the purchase of any lottery tickets with credit or debit cards.

I hope she doesn't get the money. Anyone using a stolen credit card deserves to be in jail, not collecting a bunch of money from a lottery.

Same in the state of Georgia.

Stores are not allowed to put lottery tickets on debit/credit cards, I'm not sure why tho.

    Probably helps with two things:

    A) It mitigates the possiblity of the state losing money from fraudulent purchases.

    B) It helps curb addictive gamblers who WILL gamble away all available money, not just money they actually have.

Your credit card is money your bank has, and makes available to you upon request. It is not money you 'have', in the normal sense of the term, to me anyway.

What kind of example would the state be setting if she was allowed to collect the money? I reaaaaaaaaally hope they put her in jail.

That's kind of low. It's not like a lottery ticket is exactly a big-ticket item anyway.

    Ohio requires payment in cash.

If I'm the card owner, I strike up a deal with her where the woman gets to keep $50k, I keep the rest, and I don't press charges or file a claim against her charge for being fraudulent

The problem with that theory is the the owner of the card is currently deceased.

Erm...ok then. If I was executor of the card owner's estate, etc. etc.

I say let the lady keep the money, quadruple her fines and force her to make a large donation to the County with her winnings.

Not a bad idea, but I believe it'd be illegal (trippling the fines).
