Looking for a new host company

Hi,

I am looking for a new linux host company preferably based in the UK. My company is looking at migrating the 35 domains that are based with a popular UK host company. The reason for this is because the service has deteriorated over the past year and it has got to the stage where action must be taken.

We are currently using hosts with shared servers but the sites are going down on a daily basis and email is stop and start. I am open to shared server solutions or dedicated servers provided the level of service is very good. Currently we are looking at base price of £40 per site per year but this includes the reseller cost.

Does anybody have any solutions?

Other important factors are:
A good control panel to access services and email accounts, increase web space, provide all server information.
Protection from Firewall.
Daily patches.
Backup facilities.

Kind Regards

JimFl

Lightbulb I recently signed up with a British host...

BB Dimension (bbdimension-dot-com). I don't know if their plans and service are in line with your requirements, but I can say that his rates are very reasonable, signup was fast, and when I encountered an early problem, I posted a support ticket and almost simultaneously called the owner Graham Barnes at the support # listed on his website at 08:45 am UK time. Lo and behold, Graham answered my call in person (well, if that's not LIVE help, what is?), knew already exactly who he was talking to - he had already seen my ticket - and telephonically helped me out of my misery. His email response to my ticket followed soon thereafter. A nice surprise, after all those pitfalls I had with previous hosts.
I don't know about downtime, because I couldn't find this host's statistics. I'm too new a customer to report on that.
Maybe give him a try.

thanks Jehovah,
I will certainly look at them but they sound like a small organisation and my only worry is that they might not be able to support our needs. I have not been able to find their website to check them out yet and this is must.

Any other solutions?

Hello,

You can always checkout the WHT offers section or you can search the WHT with keywords like UK hosting etc. After finding several candidates and ask WHT members for comments.

If your sites are biased on UK traffic then you'll be better off on a UK server, if it is international you can even go with a US host. Also keep in mind that if your sites heavily depend on search engine traffic and if you change the server location this could effect you traffic. As an example if your site is on a UK server and if you move it to a US server your UK SE listings could be gone or lowered.

I'd recommend taking a look at unitedhosting.co.uk as they're based in the UK and are reputable here on WHT Good luck

Plenty of solutions on the web, but...

...I don't know anything about them. I can only tell about past experiences, and these were usually not so good. Hence my need to switch to another host, just like you.
BB Dimension appears to be a small operation, but how small (or big) I really don't know. If you want to check him out, here are his details: bbdimension.com, Park Court, 50 Park Street, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, LN1 1UR, phone: +44 7932352415 (079-32352415). email: gab1982@mac.com, Graham Barnes.
Success,
Jehovah

Looks extremely small (virtually no posts on forums) and extremely cheap (1GB space & 3GB BW for $9.99 a year) and prices in USD (a bit surprising for a UK host).

I just did some quick calculations and found your budget to be ~ $200/mo. If I'm correct, then you have the budget to purchase a very decently sized reseller account from a large UK based company such as United Hosting or Clook.

Clook - www.clook.net
United Hosting - www.unitedhosting.co.uk

Good luck.
