    GameServer

    Hey Guys,

My clan is currently in need of private servers for matches for our css, dods and cs1.6 divison. I was wondering how many 12 Slots servers I can hold if we use each server about 4 hours a day MAX on these specs:

    Base System Configuration:

    Intel Pentium 4 3GHz (HT)
    80GB IDE Hard Drive
    1024MB RAM
    Bandwidth: 1000GB
    100MBIT
    Fedora

    or

    AMD 64 Athlon 3200+
    80GB IDE Hard Drive
    1024MB RAM
    Bandwidth: 1000GB
    100MBIT
    Fedora

Go with the athlon, and I'm guessing around 7-10.

Go athlon for sure, and around 5-7 will fit comfortably in my opinion.

I agree. 4-6 CS 1.6's shouldn't be an issue. DOD takes a bit more resources but should be ok too.

Only thing is if all servers get full at the same time you will most likely see a bit of lag when one changes maps.. But if it's for a clan then it's not to big of a deal.

You should get more RAM imo, so you can do boost the hell out of the servers and get better regristration.

Adding an extra 512MB - 1024MB RAM will be better for gaming as Rej3ct says this should improve your hit registration and make sure it doesnt go sluggish.

for just a clan the AMD is fine..

only if you resell them you might want to add ram to them (2 GB total ram is fine)

the AMD should be able to hold about 6-8 gameservers (private 12 slot cs1.6)

DoD is more CPU consuming and the rest is ok..

remember, public servers are usually much more than the private servers in usage..

our CS public takes more than double the cpu power of private servers (because its being used 24/7 and the private server is used like 1/24 )

I would suggest taking a look at www.clanservers.com and also www.defconservers.com both I believe are top gaming hosts.

Do you have good knowlege of Linux? It might be better for you to go with a managed gaming server provider so they have to do all the managing for you!

How much more would I able to hold if added 1GB of ram?

Intech: I've had clanservers.com before and really weren't great, would lag/lag out, etc. Don't know about defconservers, I might want to do a search on them.

1-2 extra if you add a GB of RAM. Here is a sample config if you are looking to be a GSP

    Dual Xeon 3.0
    2 GB ECC RAM
    80 GB SATA
    CS: 140-160 Slots

You won't gain alot of slots by adding more memory but you will ease the load times and lag that could occur from maps changing.
