    * Rock Paper Scissors

RPS is a decision making game of wits, speed, dexterity and strategy between players who are unable to reach a decision using other means.
2005 Rock Paper Scissors International Championships .

Can you believe over 1000 people from Canada, US and Europe show up for this every year?

I just find that incredibly unbelievable and bizarre.

Then I said to myself "Heh, Self, next thing you know, they'll have tiddlywinks tournaments".

Well, they even have Chapters around the world!!

Maybe it's just me. Perhaps I should just get out more...

The 2005 Championships were held in Toronto, Canada, but yes, they travel here from Europe (8 different countries, I think) and the US.

On the site, they explain the appeal:

-Becoming World Champion is a true aspirational experience. Winner becomes a bonafide celebrity with multiple broadcast and print media interviews

-Competitive-level play is an adrenaline rush

-An opportunity to get very serious about something silly

-Very social evening - stranger-to-stranger conversations are common place

-Anyone can compete at the world class level

    Well, that explains it!

If i saw myself in a competition like that id have to kick my Own *** i mean dont they have nothing better to do? Well i guess some people like that kind of stuff.... Maybe its more of a social gathering.... Im in the UK and the cost to fly out to Canada are quite high even last minute so i cant see many people going just for that

    Insane to say the least

When it comes to a title like "The Best in the World at ???", even just for one thing and/or for one year, there are many catagories where I would accept the title.

My thoughts exactly, Yash. It's a game of luck, rather than skill, is it not?

    That is awesome!

I haven't sent a mass goof-off email to my friends in a long time. This one definitely deserves to get some attention

Hahaha, thanks for the video link. That is unreal.

Hey, listen, to each their own, I guess. If they get their adrenalin rush by facing off with RPS tourneys, more power to them!

I can just see them sending around an e-mail with a link to WHT.

"Look at these idiots here. People from all around the world come together to talk on a forum and ask their own competition for help on how to start a hosting company. Can you believe 118,460 people waste there time on a such a pointless board?

P.S. To learn Tom Riddel's Rock Stomp you must forward this message to 10 of your friends and then spin around in your chair counter clockwise for exactly 39 seconds."

My daughter already does. When she ends up with sissors and I have rock she still wins.

Turns out the 'bunny' eats the 'seed'. Of course she's six and we all know six year olds don't like to lose.

There is some skill involved. You have to be able to read the other person, just like in games such as poker. But having a comp about it.... well some people

Yeah, im sure there is some skill in there.

Just like with poker, you have to be able to read people.

There again i think its 99% luck and 1% skill

Geez, for years every day of my life included the ol' reauxchambeaux! In high school, colllege, on road trips etc. we always decided 'shotgun' this way. There's plenty of 'know your opponent' involved. On The Simpsons, Lisa always goes paper because she knows Bart always goes rock.
