Creating e-mail accounts (forwardings) on the fly?

Hello,

I'm hosting at Mediatemple (shared hosting) and would like to offer a forwarding e-mail address to each user who registers at my site. Now, I've no clue how to create such accounts on the fly. Anyone has done this before?

Of course I can manually add e-mail accounts, but I'm talking about 500 to 1000 users, so I would like to do it with scripting (preferably PHP). Note that ALL e-mail addresses would be forwardings.

Thanks, Barton

Does MediaTemple use their own control panel? (not DirectAdmin, Cpanel, Plesk, Etc...) if so do they have any type of API they could offer you?

Hi!

I don't know which control panel they use. It's a combination of different control panels. It doesn't really look that integrated as they show in their screenshots.

Actually, by date, I'm unable to login at the WebControl (that's how they call their admin), time-outs all the time. Yesterday the same happened, I thought it was a temporarily problem...

Anyway I've mailed them about my question about creating e-mail accounts on the fly, but they ignored my question. They referred to the KnowledgeBase where you can't just read how to create e-mail accounts manually.

I'm disappointed with MediaTemple. Everyone tells so many good stuff about them (I've actually mailed some others sites hosted by MT), but I'm experiencing problems from the first day I was activated.

This is very easy to setup. This can be done with a php script.

what mta do they use? from checking out their site looks like they primarly offer plesk. so just have a php script grab the users data from sql db and manipulate the forwarders from there.

I've checked the sql db but there is nothing there. The users table is probably hidden. I've got a reply from Mediatemple and they told me that I can't create users on the fly with shared hosting. So, I give up... I'll do it manually.
