Question Tale of the lost provider...

    Hello,
Just a quick question for you lot. I've been running a website for several years now and we have recently decided to install a phbb forum on it. I need some info from the web hosts (database name etc.) however after changing my computer several times over the years, I have lost the records of which company we orginally used as our webhosts.

I have asked the name registrars, tried doing WHOIS and searching for the resulting info on google, attempted to check the names on the credit card bill but cannot get anywhere as to finding out the name and address of the company...

Can anyone help me at all?

    Thanks,
    Barney.

    Hi,
Are you saying that you have been hosting with a company for a few years and you don't know who your hosting with? Try some of the tools here at www.dnsstuff.com or post your domain name so others can try to help.

Would you by any chance be hosting at Site5 (www.site5.com)? There's someone with the exact same username on their forum

Barney, if you put your domain name with extension into a search here:
    http://centralops.net/co/DomainDossier.aspx

It should tell you who is hosting your site.

    Hi all,
Thanks for your help so far. My domain name is: www dot shropshirevts dot com

I have tried using some of the tools suggested but am unsure of which ones I should use to find out the contact details of my hosts.

Blue, I have used the DomainDossier to find out who owns my DNS and it points to OLM - I have contacted this company and it seems that the hosts I have registered with are actually hiring out these servers from OLM.

Elix, I am not hosting with site5.com - the name's must be a coincidence!

    Thanks,
    Barney.

    Hello, Barney_H!

From the looks if it, you use Host4U.net

Although, their website isn't looking to promising.

A couple of whois lookups and a google suggest that you might be with www.fazter.com . Does that ring a bell?

As far as I know there is no host4u.net

olm.net is the parent company and they just use host4u.net as their name servers.

It could be any one of dozens or hundreds of hosts who use the same name servers but I don't know why olm.net wouldn't be able to pinpoint it for you.

It looks like illuminat1 found it. Try calling the 800# they have and talk to them.

Those are probably unbranded nameservers that many hosts use.
