site very slow!!!help

Hi, i just got a dedicated server not too long ago, i'm very new so i got PlatinumServerM to manage my server but i think they are not much helping. So i try to come here for help. My site is very slow and they said its low on memory so they made a few tweak but site is still the same. Anyway i think, i'm going to cancel after this month expire.

I've copy and paste from ssh, hopefully this will help. Initially i've only had 512mb ram, I'm not sure if this is normal but all of the ram are constantly used up all the time. My site is very slow and i cant upload much using ftp either. It was low on memory with 512mb of ram and about 40 people on the site. So i just had it upgrade to 1gig ram now but same thing the 1gig gets used up again and this happen when only about 15 people on the site. I use mod_limitipconn to limit jjust 1conn/ip right now. Still everything is super slow.

about the site, just have small zip file of roughly 4-6mb for downloading, h**p://kippeimanga.n*t

Linux uses memory as cache. When its rebooted, the cached is cleared, and when applications or daemons need more ram, some of the cache is freed. That is not your problem and im not positive what it is.

You could use hdparm to test the HD write speed, to see if its your system. Other wise it is your bandwidth usage. Check your totals.

Your server itself doesn't indicate any CPU load, the memory usage is because of read cache - which is most likely caused by the file that is being downloaded from your clients.

How did you measure that the server is slow, the connection to the server or you have run stress test ?

It could be your network connectivity to the server is slow, you can try to run apache benchmark programs or local benchmark to try and see what is the problem with the performance of your server

h04n9, it doesn't require a premium account. you need 5 posts minimum before you can do everything on the forums.

Are you still throttling your server? Browsers will try to open multiple connections to your server to get images, etc. You should let it be at least 5 connections/ip.

You've got a fair number of remote javascript and images on your page. Sometimes that can make the page load slow when the browser can't display the page until they've all been downloaded. If one is very slow, it can drag the whole page down.

yah its still set at 2 connections/ip. PlatinumServerManagement install the mod_bandwidth for me to make this limit, i've got no response from them for two days since i submit a ticket so i dont need them anymore. I login to shell but I dont see the setting for mod_bandwidth in httpd.conf that limit 2 conns/ip. Dont know where you set it in. Where else can they put this setting in?

See http://www.cohprog.com/v3/bandwidth/doc-en.html

You're likely looking for the BandWidth statement. It can be in a .htaccess file, as well.

this morning when site was shut down the memory used was around 400mb and the upload through ftp, browsing through cpanel or shell its all fine really fast. But then once the site is up the memory get up to nearly all the ram get used up. Iknow oshaka say its normal but everything really just sloww down once site is up. Cant upload much bcuz speed average just 10KB/s or lower and access shell is a pain, scroll through text....so much lagging.

That sounds like you are having bandwidth issues, then.

Have you contacted HiVelocity to test your connection? Perhaps you have a bad switch port, bad card, or are overloading a 10Mb switch port, etc.
