    Question CentOS or Fedora Core?

We have Red Hat 9 and going to upgrade it because there is no more support for up2date for this version.

What is the best choise for web server? Upgrade to CentOS or Fedora Core?

    Thanks!

CentOS is really nice. I have used it on multiple servers with no issues.

Yeah, I would have to agree that CentOS is very good, go for that one.

My vote for CentOS, very easy to maintain/upgrade (love yum)

Why do you need to update. You can use apt-get to keep your computer updated.

freshrpms supply updates for old versions of Redhat . You don't need to upgrade if you don't need.

I personally would recommend CentOS. The release cycle is more stable, the technology used is more proven. While Fedora is a good OS, it has a faster release cycle (approximately every 6 months, and consequently a faster end-of-life per version), and is used more for including newer technologies which may not always be the most proven. The Fedora group themselves state "It is also a proving ground for new technology that may eventually make its way into Red Hat products."

That said, though, I know people who swear by Fedora over CentOS as well, and I haven't used Fedora in about a year (I have a couple dozen CentOS 3.5 servers though so far, and have been perfectly happy with it so far).

YUM is the primary update method for Fedora as well.

Most of our servers that were imaged last year have Fedora on them - all servers imaged this year have had CentOS done on them. No problems at all. Have about 60 servers with CentOS on them and never have any problems.

Agree with the majority - CentOS has not done me wrong yet in over a year. Very stable, very quick to update. Could not be happier with it.

Centos hands down, fedora core is not meant to be a server OS and has a really quick release cycle among other tihngs.

Fedora is really Red Hat on the dev edge. It includes the very latest developments in the Red Hat linux line at a small risk of occassionally introducing unexpected dev bugs (aka improvements).

Upgrade from RH9 to Cetos will give you a better stability than your upgrade to Fedora .. With Fedora you will again have the legacy fear -- even if you upgrade to the latest release Fedora 4
