How to make a log of CPU & memory use?

    Hi.

I've been suffering memory problems, and would like to create a log file recording every CPU
& Memory use each 5 minutes.

Is it possible? Thank you very much.

How about MRTG or Cacti, they create graphical logs of all sorts of usage.

You can use SNMP over the network to monior multiple boxen as we do. We use RTG. It's kinda like a database driven MRTG with some advanced reporting. It's not easy to setup, though, that's for sure.

All these applications are very hard to install. You can install Hotsanic in 10 minutes and start graphing stuff really quick.

    how about if you run

    vmstat

    for example: vmstat 10

from the prompt - you can try to play with the number of seconds before each refresh, it is similar to top but it least much more details about the system and you can store the output in a file
