Need some help with those who have a round robin setup, email problem

I have 3 servers, db web1 and web2. The db server has the databases and web 1 and web 2 is the web front end. the dns lives on the db server and all dns records point to the web ips. Now for some reason mail that is created by nobody is not being sent out on the web1 server or web 2 server the error it gives is that it is a local problem but since the dns is on the database server this is the cause. Now I had to reinstall the db os and before it was working and I forgot what I changed the first time I set it up but as soon as I made that change all the mail that was in queue was sent out from then on.

the error that exim is giving is 451 Temporary local problem - ple

Now this is for emails that are being created on web2 that are supposed to be delivered to a mailbox on web1 going through the dns on db.

Now these are phpbb forums, all emails that have been created such as mass forum emails, sendmail emails and the like are not being sent out at all they are just sitting in the queue.

Now this is led me to believe that it is a problem with the dns on db1 since it was working fine before I did a reinstall of the os so there has to be a setting that I'm missing.

my resolv.conf on db server I just added the line nameserver 127.0.0.1 but currently my outlook can't connect so I don't know if its working.

Right now I did an exim bpc and web1 has 3,411 emails waiting to be sent out an web2 has 402

    the resolv.conf wasn't the fix

It sounds like you want your web servers to use the db server as the dns cache.

First, check to see whether it's working on the db/dns server:

    host yahoo.com 127.0.01

You should see something like this:

    Using domain server:
    Name: 127.0.0.1
    Address: 127.0.0.1#53
    Aliases:

    yahoo.com has address 66.94.234.13
    yahoo.com has address 216.109.112.135

    If you get this:
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

then DNS is not running on the db machine.

Next, try the same command, but replace 127.0.0.1 with your db machine's IP address. You should be able to resolve yahoo's addresses. This will tell you that your external inteface is providing DNS as well as the loopback.

If that works, try it from one of your web servers with the same command you last did on the db machine.

If that works, then your resolv.conf is likely not pointing to the db machine on the web servers.

    Using domain server:

    Address: 65.202.242.169#53
    Aliases:

    yahoo.com has address 216.109.112.135
    yahoo.com has address 66.94.234.13

Give us the result of tail /var/log/exim_rejectlog, tail /var/log/exim_mainlog, and tail /var/log/exim_paniclog from each of the webservers..

That should give more clues as to what's going on.
