That makes sense.... and in that case I need to ask some specific questions. (questions that I wouldn't normally ask in a public forum).
What is your business model?
What is your monthly transaction volume?
What is your monthly dollar volume?
How do you handle your current gateway?
Do you have affiliates that you need to track?
etc, etc, etc.....

I've been in this business for a long time, and I know that people want to have broad general answers.....
Unfortunately, it just doesn't work like that, and if someone claims fo have broad general answers to processing problems, then good luck dealing with them. I deal with the real world and with real world solutions.
If there are general issues to answer, I will be happy to do my best to address them.
If it is a specific business situation, then it requires specific info.
