Alternate port for smtp. Which one to use.
I chose 587. Which one do you use?

But, it is not working because the connection to the server has failed.

This is on a Linux. I am using cPanel. I am running exim on another port in WHM.
I am using o/e to test and my server requires authentication.

Do you see a failed connection message in /var/log/maillog? Any messages in /var/log/exim_mainlog to indicate a problem? Also (and sorry if these questions are way too obvious, just trying to overcome them first) did you change the port on O/E to 587 as well?

I have realized it is the firewall. I can send mail when the firewall is stopped. I tried to restart and get an iptables error, host/network (mail.com) not found. I am working on that now.

Yep, always my first guess when I have problem like this. Flush your rules, restart and you should be good.

Yeah, I flushed. When I restart I get iptables v1.2.8: host/network `(mail.com)' not found. Trying to fix this now.

We use port 26, although its really not too important which port you use...

Why change it?
Ports <1024 are standardized for a reason...

You run it on both 25 & 26 so those users who have their ISPs blocking outgoing port 26 can still use your SMTP servers.
