Windows Vista to boot in 2-3 seconds

Windows Vista to boot in 2-3 seconds

Fast On and Off: A Windows Vista computer starts and shuts down as quickly and reliably as a television, typically within 2 to 3 seconds. Windows Vista processes login scripts and startup programs and services in the background so you can start working right away. You'll also shut down and restart your computer less often by using the New Sleep state, a simple one-click on and off experience which not only reduces power consumption, but also delivers and protects user data.

That'll be awesome. I imagine very RAM/CPU hungry though.

I just hope it lives up to its word

From the sounds of things it will be perfect for PC's with HT or dual cores - might hammer normal CPU's a bit though

Thats supposedly booting the OS from a RAM disk, which would be nice but not many of us have that option .... yet.

There was actually a piece of software available for this type of thing a few years back, by the name of RAMDrive I think. Dabs.com were making a big thing of it at the time.

It allowed you to install like 10+ OS's and switch between them at the click of a button. But you needed something like 1GB RAM minimum (bear in mind this was about 2000/2001) and you also had the option to actually run your chose OS in the RAM, so no waiting times at all really.

It never really sold very well, firstly due to price and secondly due to required specifications. But its been done before so I can't see why MS would not use the same principle now that we all have 512MB+ RAM on our main systems
