??How do I Find out who Is Hosting A Website??
Hi Folks,
I am in a bit of a pickle here. I have a domain that was mainteined and set up by someone else that I now have to take care of as that person no longer works here.
It looks like all the client needs to do is renew his hosting package, but I'm not sure where his site is hosted and the customer doesn't remember where he had it hosted.
Is there anyway I can figure this out? If I can get his hosting company to fire him his account info he should be able to take care of the rest.
Little help??

Do a whois on the domain, then on the name servers (if needed). You can usually find the host by just looking at the name servers. But, sometimes you need to dig a little deeper.
There is no best host. There is only the host that's best for you.

I already did a who is, but it's registered as private..domainsbyproxy...
Is there any other way? All I need to get him is his account info and he can renew it.

Did you do the name servers?

I'm afraid I'm not quite sure what you mean?? I can see the name servers..
NS1.SECURESERVER.NET

Does this tell you anything?

Try this:
Use this URL http://www.whois.sc/INSERT_YOUR_DOMAIN_HERE
Scroll down until you see "IP Address: ##.###.##.### (ARIN & RIPE IP search"
Click the IP
This likely isn't going to show you the host (but it may). But, it will show you the DC the server is at.
Click the "Reverse IP: Web server hosts ## websites (reverse ip tool requires free login)" link. (Requires a whois.sc account) You might see a name that looks like a host.
Or post the domain name and we'll have a look for you. There is no best host. There is only the host that's best for you.

That did the trick. Thanks amigo. I have a ton of these orphan sites I'm taking care of now. I'm sure I'll be using this tool in the future. Thanks again..

I would go to DNSSTUFF.com they have a couple of tools all in one that you can use there.

I was going to list that option, except I used it (so I could explain the step-by-step) and it showed some domain I've never heard of as being the only domain on a server that I have 50 sites on.
I think whois.sc is a tad more accurate. And, I think you only have to be registered user to get the results; not a paid user. There is no best host. There is only the host that's best for you.

That's strange. I just logged in my free account and it pulls the information fine.
[Edit]
Okay. I went back and took a closer look.
