Hello Everyone,
I was wondering. What are some ways I can keep my website veiwers away from knowing im a one man Web Hosting Business? I run the entire thing myself. Im was trying to think of some ways I could keep people from knowing that right when they look at my website. Any Suggestions?
Thanks,
Tim F

One good way would be to not tell everyone on the largest hosting forum in the world that you are a one man operation.

*snicker* I guess he missed that
I personally don't care about the size of the company unless I find out I've been lied to. If a company misreprents their goods, services, or size, I find a company confident enough in itself to be up front.

The best information I can give you is to be completely honest with your customers. I am not saying you have to come right out and YELL "Hey I am a one man operation". If the question does get brought up, you should be truthful.
One thing to keep in mind is that your customers will be trusting you with their data and the security of the server. Some people may not feel comfortable with a one-man operation, for others it will not make a difference.
The only problems I could see with a one-man operation is the possibility that support is slow or lacking, and server downtime may be greater if the owner is not around to fix things. There is of course ways around this. There are companies who do server monitoring and will repair problems when they arise, and there are also companies who will man your helpdesk.
Even if you do not employ the service of a third party company, your customers do deserve some truth. For example, do not advertise 24/7 support if you can not truly provide it. If you do you will only upset your customers. A better solution is to say (support is available from x:xx till x:xx.
Now that I spoke my mind, here is some advice on how to appear larger than you really are.
#1 - Have a professionally designed website, do not use a template which is widely available.
#2 - Have professional software such as a helpdesk and/or billing center (to add an extra touch, customize this software to make it look like it's part of your site).
#3 - Spell check your website to make sure you have no errors.
If all else fails, you could always take on a partner. If you did that, you would no longer be a one-man operation.

Be honest, why would you want to tell your customers that there is a bunch of staff when there is none? If you are not being honest from the beginning, you will never make it in any business line.

Honesty!
Honesty!
Honesty!
You don't need to be insanely upfront with it and call yourself onemanophost.com but nothing beats honesty.
Just because it's a capitalist society doesn't mean you have to lose every bit of integrity.
I've been with one-man ops that are a lot higher quality than 150 person teams: Be upfront, you'll be rewarded in the end with great clients who respect you for the effort you do put into it.
Now: Don't forget that even though you're a oneman operation thats no excuse for downtime. Get yourself a blackberry with unlimited transfer, a good monitoring system in place and emergency ticket system so clients can still 'notify' or 'contact' you if you're sleeping, eating, away from the computer when something goes awry.

I can agree with you there. It always seems the little guy will go a step further to make sure your satisfied. With larger companies your just another customer, the person on the other end of the HelpDesk is just there for the job.

Nadabrahma,
Sure they can monitor things 24/7: Scripts can be setup to notify, e-mail and ensure someone is awake at the time of any incident (blackberries are loud )
It's whether or not they have the drive to continue it for a long period of time.

Yes, it seems quite impossible especially for hosting business to run everything yourself.
