What's the big deal with Office 12? It's just the same thing. I just don't see why anyone needs any more updates to Office.

Probably just some more feature bloat so M$ can try and extort more money from businesses.

How exactly is MS extorting money from anyone?

Do you even know what extort means or is this just mindless Microsoft bashing?

MS aren't extorting money from anyone. I don't see any bullying or intimidation going on anywhere. Businesses or home users don't HAVE to upgrade, nobody is FORCING them.

Personally, I want to see this beta simply because it's free. Even on a student license, MS Office is way too expensive for me - so I've been using Open Office. It'd be nice to see what the big fuss about MS Office is. The only version I've every had is Office 2000 - which is nothing special really.

Office 2k3 was a vast improvement over 2000.

£78 for the student edition. If you can afford a computer you can afford that (or at least your parents can...).

My most commonly used Office app is Outlook, and I have too much important information in my email to trust it to a Microsoft Beta, but thanks for the tip, anyone who uses it please let us know how it goes I'm interested to hear the differences.

I use Office 2003 Pro, I love it.

If all you are doing is your homework then it wouldn't make any sense for you to buy it even if you could afford it.
